HARI RAYA PUASA 

Celebrated by the Muslims signifies the end of the fasting season of Ramadan for a month. The celebration is determined by sighting of the new moon. This is the most significant celebration for the Muslims. Muslims starts the day by congregating in the mosques early in the morning to perform Hari Raya Puasa prayers followed by visits to the graves of the departed.

 

This festive occasion is greeted with great joy, the young will ask for forgiveness from their elders and everyone will put on new clothes.Open house or invitation for relatives and friends to come to their house is practised. Plenty of traditional Malay delicacies are served during this festive season. Houses are thoroughly cleaned and decorated with the lighting of oil lamps to welcome the angels which is believed to be visiting the earth during the seven days preceding the festivall. The celebration lasts for a month which the celebration is concentrated in the first three days.




My RAYA story.

every year after one month fasting, the day that Muslims people waiting at last arrived, celebrate Eid day with family and enjoying after one month fasting. Usually what we can see, when it comes near to this  day, everyone is busy preparing for Eid day. My friends and i as a student, busy searched for the ticket bus before the ticket are sold out.

One week before Eid day, many people are still busy shopping for Eid day, they buy clothes, shoes something new to wear for Eid day and also buy the ingredient for making cookies before Eid day and lots more. Among them i also busy shopping with them all.

As we can see, when it comes near the day of Eid day, people who working will take early leave, this is because to avoid the traffic jam and also arrived safely to the hometown. Everyone going back to their own village to celebrate Eid day with family.

I went back to my village one week earlier because my college already give permission for holiday, i also got some activities to do at my village. Three day before Eid day, my cousin  and i searched for bamboo to make a food, that malay people called "lemang" and also some ingredient to make sate, small pieces of spiced meat grilled on a skewer. When the night come my cousin and i play with firework that it some way to make "lemang" and sate. It was fun but dangerous.

The night before Eid day, my family busy tidy up the house, to make sure the house is clean and beautiful, nice to see. everything is perfect and new.

At the first Eid day in the morning, my family and i go to the mosque to pray for the winning after one month fasting and praise to Allah for giving strength to achieve the target. After pray, my family gathering, shake hand and forgiving each other for the past mistake.

There are a lots of food in the first of Eid day, for example "lemang, ketupat, tapai, rendang and sate" and lots variety of biscuit Raya. Usually first eid day my family go to the graveyard pray for the relative that already past away. After visited the graveyard we all visited others relative house and my friends come to my house for Eid day.

After two weeks holiday for Eid day, everything went back to normal. Everyone back to work or studying and start the day like a normal day again. the saddest thing when it already near to the end of Eid day.

......DREAM AND AMBITION......

I am sure everybody that still live in this world had their own ambition. For example, what is the dream of a fat ladies or men? Of course is to slim their body.


How about a poor man. I thought he'll always said this "I will be rich one day soon!". But most of them never try to make their dream come true. They just wait and wish for it just as they believe in the movie. Only a wish of a child, get his father into a big trouble and be together again with his mother.

I thought work hard was the most suitable idea to make dream come true. I have my own ambition like everybody. I want to be a graphic designer but my language is worse to communicate. Therefore, I must work hard to improve my language.


I try everything for my dream, my ambition. But sometimes, we had to think before we do something .We may asked for advice from the person who had more experience. If we do everything we want without consider, we might get trouble if that is illegal.


Another example, a person wanted to ern more money in a short while. He sold drugs to reach what he had been dreaming. Is that the right way to be rich? No! He is using the innocent. He had destroyed the future of the teenager that still don't know about he's trap. This is really not the right way to get anything. We have to sacrifice for everything thing we want. Not by using anything as a stepping stone.


After all, that I had written thought we must chase our ambition, our dream, but not by the bad way.

......CULTURE : ABOUT MALAYSIAN CULTURE.......

Culture describes the many ways in which human beings express themselves for the purposes of uniting with others, forming a group, defining an identity, and even for distinguishing themselves as unique.

Cultural expression is highly sensual in that human beings often create activities, practices, symbols, and so on that can be easily consumed by our senses. For example, culturally distinct forms of dance or physical movement attract our senses of touch and sight; whereas culturally specific foods seek to activate our sense of taste and smell.

Although “culture” is not necessary for the survival of the human species, notions of culture and cultural identities are present in almost every human society on earth. As the world moves closer together through increased globalization, migration, and technological advancement human beings are beginning to question the role of culture 

within all aspects of human existence.

The global issue of culture encompasses many diverse matters of interest which include: Religious Freedom, Cultural Diversity, Disability Culture, Indigenous Peoples, Global Citizenship, and Languages.

 
....MALAYSIAN.... 

Cultures have been meeting and mixing in Malaysia since the very beginning of its history. More than fifteen hundred years ago a Malay kingdom in Bujang Valley welcomed traders from China and India. With the arrival of gold and silks, Buddhism and Hinduism also came to Malaysia. A thousand years later, Arab traders arrived in Malacca and brought with them the principles and practices of Islam. By the time the Portuguese arrived in Malaysia, the empire that they encountered was more cosmopolitan than their own. 

 

A Multi-Cultural Society

Malaysia is a multi-cultural society. The main ethnic groups are the native Malays as well as large populations of Chinese, and Indians. When visiting the country it is clear that the ethnicities retain their religions, customs and way of life. The most important festivals of each group are public holidays.

Although growing up, children are educated in the same schools and will eventually work in the same offices, few marry outside their own ethnicity. Families tend to socialise within their own ethnic group – all part of retaining their individual traditions and lifestyles.

Despite the ethnic differences there are commonalities culturally speaking.

Names
The way names are used also varies between ethnicities:


Malays
• Many Malays do not have surnames. Instead, men add their father's name to their own name with the term "bin" (meaning ‘son of’). So Rosli bin Suleiman, would be Rosli the son of Suleiman.
• Women use the term "binti", so Aysha bint Suleiman is Aysha the daughter of Suleiman.


Chinese
• The Chinese traditionally have 3 names. The surname (family name) is first and is followed by two personal names.

• Many Chinese adopt more Western names and may ask you to use that instead.

Indian

• Many Indians do not use surnames. Instead, they place the initial of their father's name in front of their own name. The man's formal name is their name "s/o" (son of) and the father's name.

• Women use "d/o" to refer to themselves as the daughter of their father.

Who are Malaysian's?

 

The Malay are Malaysia's largest ethnic group, accounting for over half the population and the national language. With the oldest indigenous peoples they form a group calledbumiputera, which translates as "sons" or "princes of the soil." Almost all Malays are Muslims, though Islam here is less extreme than in the Middle East. Traditional Malay culture centers around the kampung, or village, though today one is just as likely to find Malays in the cities.  

  

The Chinese traded with Malaysia for centuries, then settled in number during the 19th century when word of riches in the Nanyang, or "South Seas," spread across China. Though perhaps a stereotype, the Chinese are regarded as Malaysia's businessmen, having succeeded in many industries. When they first arrived, however, Chinese often worked the most grueling jobs like tin mining and railway construction. Most Chinese are Tao Buddhist and retain strong ties to their ancestral homeland. They form about 35 percent of the population. 

  

Indians had been visiting Malaysia for over 2,000 years, but did not settle en masse until the 19th century. Most came from South India, fleeing a poor economy. Arriving in Malaysia, many worked as rubber tappers, while others built the infrastructure or worked as administrators and small businessmen. Today ten percent of Malaysia is Indian. Their culture -- with it's exquisite Hindu temples, cuisine, and colorful garments -- is visible throughout the land

  

The oldest inhabitants of Malaysia are its tribal peoples. They account for about 5 percent of the total population, and represent a majority in Sarawak and Sabah. Though Malaysia's tribal people prefer to be categorized by their individual tribes, peninsular Malaysia blankets them under the term Orang Asli, or "Original People." In Sarawak, the dominant tribal groups are theDayak, who typically live in longhouses and are either Iban(Sea Dayak) or Bidayuh (land Dayak). In Sabah, most tribes fall under the term Kadazan. All of Malaysia's tribal people generally share a strong spiritual tie to the rain forest.

.....NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION.....

What I understand about non-verbal communication is it sending and receiving messages in a variety of ways without the use of words.

So how it could be?

These messages are sent to others through:

Eye Contact 

Facial Expressions 

Voice tone 

Voice volume 

Rate of speech 

Silences and Pauses 

Hand Gestures 

Body Positioning 

Body Distance

Non-verbal communication is important and it is has multiple function. It is quick important especially for dumb person. Besides, it may substitute for the verbal message especially if it is blocked by noise, interruption, etc. It also often used to accent a verbal message because sometimes verbal tone indicates the actual meaning of the specific words, and to repeat the verbal message. 

There is several advantages and disadvantages of non-verbal communication.

Advantages: 

*You can communicate with someone who is hard of hearing.

*You can communicate at place where you are supposed to maintain silence. 

*You can communicate something which you don't want others to hear or listen to.

*You can communicate if you are far away from a person.

*You can have long conversation.

*Can be used as a public tool for communication.

*Can create an impression upon people / listeners.

Disadvantages: 

*You can not have long conversation.

*Can not discuss the particulars of your message

*Difficult to understand and requires a lot of repetitions.

*Can not be used as a public tool for communication.

*Less influential and can not be used everywhere.

*Not everybody prefers to communicate through non-verbal communication.

*Can not create an impression upon people/listeners.

.....I SHOULD IMPROVE MY COMMUNICATION SKILL.....

 This is my statement why i should improve my communication skill. As we know, communication skill is important for all things and everyone must have high communication skill to stand up in this era.


English for Business or Business Communication electives may include subjects such as communication in the workplace, participation in meetings, writing skills in business situations and interview techniques. Communication skill will be use every time with non stop because this is general in life.


"I always failed to tell how to do something better or what to do, to communicate better". This is reason that why i should improve my communication skill. In reality, good communication skills are opposite, it is using lesser words and obtain a greater impact. Communicating well involves using multiple channels that we human have developed over the centuries. Some of them are primal in nature like the body language and some of it acquired over years, like the tone of your voice and then we have the words.


Personally, the communication skill would be essential to me in several ways, particularly at home, in college, in the community and in the workplace in future. I have to admit that I am a person who has quite a lot of problems in communication. In fact, effective communication skills are a set of skills that I have been trying to acquire with limited success. The main problem that I have is the inability to bring my ideas across to other people and to effectively understand the messages and ideas others attempt to send to me. Furthermore, with a relatively poor command of English, I find myself struggling to find the proper words to use when I communicate with people.


In the college and at the future workplace, effective written communication skills are essential in ensuring that my ideas can be conveyed to the receivers accurately. Being a student, there are times when there is a need to enquire about various things pertaining to college work.


Lastly, as I project into the near future, effective communication skills in the form of writing a good resume or application letter, as well as excellent interview skills would increase my chances in getting my desired job in the challenging job market. Effective professional communication skills such as writing a proper proposal, conducting a meeting, designing survey questionnaires and interview questions, analyzing and presentation of data are essential skills that I would need in my jobs in the future.


To conclude, effective communication skills are life skills that are useful in both the short run and the long run in all aspects of life. These skills must both be acquired and practised effectively to bring out my fullest potential and to be able to establish good interpersonal and working relationships with others.

.....FIRST CLASS......

Today was just same any other day, no importance really. Today I thought of starting a blog. I would like to share my journey life with everyone. 


I was in my third year of Information Technology study, diploma. This is the first class to study the Business Communication lectured by Mdm. Nazdatun Asmah Zakaria.


My class teacher will be able to answer specific questions about lessons and activities or the course tutor will be able to answer questions on this course and will monitor our progress, attendance on a weekly basis.


In this class a test will be administered, where our grammar, writing, listening and speaking skills will be tested. In this case, i had a problem because I encounter difficulties in listening, writing, speaking and reading in  english. 

7C's to improve!!!

1. CORRECTNESS

To be correct in communication Use correct level of language Include only accurate facts, words and figures . Maintain acceptable writing machines.

2. CONCISENESS

It makes the message more understandable and comprehensible . To achieve it Avoid unnecessary repetition and wordy expressions. Include only relevant facts with courtesy . Organize the message logically and efficiently.

3. CLARITY

It demands that the message should be correct, concise, complete, concrete and with consideration . To accomplish these : Choose precise, short and familiar words. Proper punctuations make the writing clear. Make the message readable and understandable. Make correct sentences, and derived the message in properly sized paragraphs

4.COMPLETENESS

The message should be complete, we should be able to know the reader’s background, viewpoints, needs, attitudes and emotions. The guidelines for completeness, The message should answer all the questions in the order ,they were asked . Give some additional information if important.

5.CONCRETENESS

The business writing should be specific , definite and vivid . The guidelines use to concreteness Use specific facts and figures . Avoid words like few, quick, soon etc. Use action verbs. The message should have building words.

6.CONSIDERATION

Consideration refers to attitude, the human touch, and understanding of human nature . It can be achieved through Emphasize you instead of “I” or “we” Your message should convey truth . Stress the positive, pleasant aspects of facts. Offer a services of value to the reader .

7. COURTESY

Courtesy is more important and advantageous in business writing then in face to face communication . It is achieved; Be truly tactful, thoughtful and appreciative . Omit expression that annoy . Answer all your mail Grant and apologize candidly.
